The Best Airtable Alternatives of 2022

In recent years, no-code platforms have become increasingly popular. They allow people with little to no tech background to create applications and products they previously would’ve needed a programmer to complete. No-code platforms use a visual design interface with drag and drop functions and pre-made widgets and apps to allow users to see their final product as it comes together. It’s never been easier to create the app you’ve always envisioned, whether you have programming knowledge or not.

One of the most popular no-code platforms is Airtable, which offers users the power of a database with the familiarity of a spreadsheet. Since launching in 2013, the intuitive platform, which is perfect for both beginners and advanced users, has grown significantly and is now worth an estimated $2.6 billion. Airtable offers users more than 50 pre-built apps that help users bring their data to life in minutes and build the tools their business needs. One of the other features that makes Airtable stand out is how easy it is to create multiple views, such as a calendar or Kanban view, of your data. Airtable also has an extensive library of tutorials available to help with the learning curve. The videos range from a short introduction to each one of its data views to hour-long in-depth explanations of how to use the entire platform for specific use cases, such as project management.

Even with everything that Airtable has to offer, there are numerous alternatives that offer additional features or are better designed for certain needs or use cases. With the increase in available no-code platforms, it can feel daunting to determine which one is best for your individual or business needs, but here are a few of the best Airtable alternatives.

Bildr

Bildr first began as an internal platform that the company’s visual designers used to create everything from websites to extensions and SaaS products for clients quicker and more effectively than their competitors. Their team has been using the platform for 15 years, but it wasn’t until 2019 that it was released as a standalone platform to the public. Since Bildr was designed by visual designers, they have the advantage of understanding how visual designers think and work. Another advantage of the platform is that the Bildr team has dealt with many client requests over the years and the available libraries, actions, and elements are extensive. The main downside to Bildr is that some feel that the platform assumes users to have a certain amount of visual design experience and knowledge, which can be overwhelming for beginners. In addition, as a newer platform, the available documentation and support doesn’t help new users fully understand what the powerful platform is truly capable of.

AppSheet

Similar to Airtable, Appsheet helps users make mobile and web apps using data in cloud-based databases and spreadsheets. Since launching in 2014, the platform has helped users make nearly four million apps with no-code required. AppSheet was acquired by Google in 2020 and is now part of the Google Cloud, and users can easily use data from Google Sheets in their apps. In addition to Google Sheets, users can also use Excel spreadsheets, Salesforce, and various SQL databases like SQL Server and MySQL, among other data sources. Appsheet offers users a number of appealing features like multi-platform support for iOS, Android, and web applications and the ability to capture images, scan barcodes, generate reports, send emails, log locations, and more. The Appsheet platform is available as an add-on to Google Workspace and starts at only $5 a month for individual accounts. Appsheet also has enterprise accounts for businesses available, and its platform has been used by major companies like GE and Clear Link.

Peaka

One of the newer no-code platforms, Peaka, allows users to easily create responsive web and SaaS applications. Compared to other platforms, Peaka offers users a lot of customization options when it comes to style and specific components, as well as a built-in database for data design and management. Another unique feature of Peaka is that its license model isn’t based on the number of users like many other platforms’ models are, making it more cost-effective for users. Given that it is a newer platform, some features like templates, documentation, and pre-built integrations are currently limited or unavailable, but the team behind Peaka is hard at work making these features, as well as countless others, a reality.

Airtable was one of the early movers in the no-code realm and has achieved success, becoming one of the most capable no-code tools out there. However, platforms like Bildr, Appsheet and Peaka are catching up with Airtable, offering viable alternatives. While Appsheet’s starter package costs just $5 per user a month, Builder and Peaka offer freemium versions (just like Airtable does), making it a no-brainer to give them a try. If you are curious about no-code platforms, it would serve you well to spend an evening or two discovering these options and see which one piques your fancy.
